New NodeMcu Lua ESP8266 ESP-12E CH340G WIFI Network Development Board Module

ESP8266 beats the arduino hands down
These are a great processor and a real upgrade to those who are used to using entry level Arduino's. The ESP8266 basic when loaded makes these little processors quite useful with the language reminiscent of days of TRS-80 level II. The built in web interface in Basic saves a lot of coding and makes simple project easy to code. A remote web based app to monitor battery usage on a ride on electric loco took about 30 minutes to build and code. A Speedo/odometer add on about the same amount of time. Forget the Arduino IDE this is the way to go.

mini A8 do not work in Australia
Purchased two of these, after days of trolling the web trying to get them to work and translate Chinese manuals, tying different sim cards from different carriers the end result was that the boot led still stayed on continuously instead of turning off after 10 seconds. If they fail to connect to an Australian carrier they will fail the boot process. Australian carriers use GSM bands on 850mhz and 900mhz. (and on higher frequencies not supported by these devices). There is no reset button to set them to factory defaults, or a downloadable image to reflash them. If they do not work from scratch they are bricks and a waste of money. The more expensive GF-07 which I later purchased worked as advertised and is a much better option. My background is in IT and RF so if I could not get these to work, it is most likely that a normal user will also have a lot of difficulty. Googling the web has failed to find anyone in Australia that has got them to work.
