Deeply engaging true story
1 of 1 found this helpful Beautiful, very moving story. If it was just a fictional story, I would say that the characters were so well written and so complex. But the story is true and therefore so much more fascinating and layered. Maud is truly amazing, played by the wonderful Sally Hawkins. Physically fragile, Maud is internally stronger than most. Her story is full of so many layers and so much deeply held emotion. And Everette is a difficult character too, who is also fascinating to watch go through his own changes and soften in very subtle ways. Just a moving story and worth a watch!

Powerful film!
1 of 1 found this helpful Such a moving and powerful film, telling the incredible true story of Desmond Doss and his courage, bravery, and his commitment to non-violence through being a conscientious objector in World War 1. His strong faith in God and his belief that God had put him there to help the wounded soldiers as a medic, rather than take lives with a gun, earned him ridicule and scorn by his fellow soldiers at first. He was called a traitor, a coward and 'weak' for his convictions, but it wasn't long before those same soldiers realised he was much more than they knew and that he would eventually be responsible for saving almost all the soldiers in his company. Such a compelling film that should be watched by us all.
